1150 years since Kyoto Gion Festival was founded. Call for support by crowdfunding to ensure safety during the festival and take measures against trash

One of Kyoto's most famous festivals, Gion Festival is in 2019 and it has been 1,150 years since its founding.

The Gion Festival is a large-scale festival where each town association in Kyoto pulls a huge mountain bream (Yamaboko) and travels around the city. While the city is crowded with 1 million visitors every year, the dangers of congestion and the cost of dealing with a large amount of rubbish are burdening the town and the Yamaboko Union.

The Gion Festival-Yamaboko Federation, which runs the event, is asking for help from the crowdfunding site Makuake for the purpose of ensuring the safety of the festival and taking measures against trash.

The support course starts at 5,000 yen, and return items such as the Gion Festival original washcloth and folding fan are available.
